Some amazing fielding by Mitchell, who was constantly knocking those bails off. Patrick had an awesome catch that had us on the edge of our seats - well done, glad the stitches didn`t put you off the game. Mitchell, Patrick, and Daniel all made more than 10 runs (not including sundries) and all hit 4`s twice. Bailey had a great bowling game with 3 for 8, as did Luke with 4 for 8 and Patrick with 2 for 8. Overall, we had a great time and everyone played so well.

Illwong Menai 186/10 beat Aquinas 1 132/9 (All out) Batting:- Luke Saunders - 40, Simon Defeyter - 17, Harshal Ratnayake - 14, Daniel Miletich - 12 Bowling:- Corey Miller 2/8 from 4 overs, Ben Jorgenson 2/13 from 4 overs Fielding Tomothy Brandt - 2 Run outs + 1 Catch , Callum Norris - 1 catch A great team effort and a great start to the season. The boys followed up a solid batting performance with some good line and length bowling to win the first game by 54 runs. A solid innings of 40 from Luke Saunders ably assited by Simon, Harshal & Callum so us amass a good score of 186. This score was possible due to two great partnerships of 58 for the 4th wicket between Luke and Simon and a 52 run partnership between Simon and Daniel. Some tight bowling at the start saw Aquinas restricted in their intial overs. A good catch by Callum of the bowling of Zach saw the 1st wicket fall at 28 in the 13th over. Ben, Corey, Lachlan and Zach shared the wickets to fall to the bowlers. Tim chipped in with two great runouts and also took a good keepers catch. The bowlers were ably supported by some good fielding by Mattew and Daniel. A great effort boys. Keep it up. Arosha Manager - 10A

It was a promising start for the season with a first up win. Sylvania won the toss and sent us into bat. While our batting highlights are shown below, special mention must be made of standout performances from Tim Roper and Mitchell Evans for their excellent stroke play and of Vivek Ratnayake who was pushing singles into the gaps. Others got off to a start with the bat and were unlucky not to stay at the crease for longer. Jacob Aranjo was missing for the first week and therefore didn’t bat so his chance will come next time. We ended up being all out in the 38th over (disappointingly well short of our allotted 50 overs) and therefore Sylvania was into bat towards the end of the first day. Sylvania faced some nervous overs before stumps and we managed to capture 2 of their wickets to finish up the first day. The second day started out well for us, with Sylvania, amazingly, only managing to score 3 runs off the first 10 overs! The ensuing overs up to the drinks break was where Sylvania scored runs, the sundries also started to accumulate and the game had then reached a position where Sylvania had an even chance of winning. Coach John Roper had a talk to the boys at drinks telling them to tighten up in the field and cut down on the sundries and we then should then be able to take the win. So with a heart-stopper for the parents, the boys stood up to the challenge and Sylvania ended up on 89 runs, so 8 runs short of our total. Our bowling highlights are shown below and some miserly bowling on our part by Liam Coughtrey, Nick,Giovas, Andrew Grose and Liam McCutcheon were the standouts.

Edward was given the captaincy duties and straight away took a leaf out of Punter’s book by calling incorrectly. Not such a bad result though, as we were sent into the field and were given the opportunity to find our cricketing feet again as a unit out in the centre. With Nathan doing the glove work, Georgia and Eddie took the new cherry and did everything that was asked of them as we had Engadine reeling at 4 for 15 after 4 overs with Eddie rattling the stumps 3 times for just 5 runs. Adam and Cody then came into the attack and kept things tight with 1 for 3 and 0 for 3 respectively off their 2 overs. That introduced Jake into the attack and he was close to unplayable bagging 3 for 4 off his 2 overs in partnership with Daniel who tied down the other end with 0 for 5. Cameron, Ryan and Jack all continued the good early work before Douglas and Joel dismissed the last of the Dragon’s resistance. After just 22 overs the Dragons had been bowled out for 73 with Wides topping the scoring with 24 followed by No Balls with 16. The great thing about that is that it gives Super Coach Justin plenty of material to work with! Another big positive was the fielding with Daniel, Cody, Georgia and Adam all taking chances that came their way. No surprises with Adam who has been good-fa-1 for as long as he’s played the game.

16A’s v’s Engadine Lost 1st innings 10/159 & 3/42 v 9(all) / 90 Not a great start to our season with a loss to Engadine. We lost the toss and were asked to have a bowl. At drinks they were going very well one down, a good catch to Adam off Blake and Engadine were 1/106. Our bowing was a bit shaky but the wickets started to fall after the break and we had them all out for 159. Alexander Wynn. took three catches behind the wickets with Hayden x 2, Luke and Bryce also starting the season with a catch. The wickets were well shared between Jamie x 2, Blake x 2, Bryce x 2, Luke x 2 and Jarryd x1. By the time this was all done we still had 20 minutes to go so it was time for us to have a bat. Never good going in with 20 minutes to stumps on day one. Jamie and Bryce opened. Jamie hit a nice 4 before he had one start on leg and took to top of off and then we had Alexander Watkiss nick one to the keeper and we were 2/10 with 6 overs down at stumps. Week two of round 1 dawned sunny and we were thinking this would be a good day for us. This was not to be as the Engadine bowlers had the idea that the stumps looked better on the ground than standing tall. It would not be fair to talk about the first 18 overs of the day but by this point we were 7/39 and looking at an 84 follow on number. Nathan joined Alexander Wynn at the crease with no previous making it to double figures. Nathan and Alexander started to build a partnership of 47 that would see us pass the follow on. The boys showed a great effort to help as make it to a respectable 90 all out. Alexander Wynn had a great day with the bat top scoring with 34 not out, well done Ally. With some time remaining Engadine when it for a bat and Adam shared the bowling through the team with anyone getting a wicket to keep bowling. Under this system Bryce got three straight overs with 3 overs 2/1 and Luke took the other wicket with 1/5. By the time we took up stumps Engadine was 3/42. Engadine played well but we will do better in the second round.
